Personal Care Aide Competency Test Overview The Personal Care Aide Competency Test is designed to evaluate a caregiver's knowledge, skills, and ability to safely provide quality in-home care services. This 50-question assessment measures competency in essential areas including personal care, infection control, client safety, communication, documentation, confidentiality, professional ethics, emergency response, and client rights. The test ensures that caregivers understand their role, responsibilities, and scope of practice while promoting the health, safety, dignity, and independence of clients in the home care setting. Special emphasis is placed on preventing injury, recognizing changes in a client's condition, maintaining confidentiality, supporting client choice, and following agency policies and procedures. Upon successful completion, caregivers demonstrate foundational competency in providing non-medical personal care services and are better prepared to deliver safe, compassionate, and professional care consistent with home care industry standards and Medicaid program expectations.
